Before Midnight: Spoiler Alert
Okay, so our two leads, Jesse (Hawke) and Celine (Delpy) got together (not married) and had twin girls. This is already a huge departure from the relationship we as viewers know and love about these two. Instead of comical, senseless bantering, we are met with more serious, life-altering, decision-making moments that really leaves the audience hanging considering there is absolutely no bridge between their separateness and now this sudden, "oh, we have kids now" relationship. It's almost as if it's a completely different story. We obviously know the initial history these two have together, but there's this nine year gap that cannot be explained so simply. They were not absent from each other during this period, but we have no idea what the relationship detailed. It all just makes the film feel detached from the first two movies.
