Drama Perfected

Movie: Titanic
Contributor: Hunter
Rating: 10/10
Wow, my first 10/10 review for LR! I'm completely satisfied that Titanic gets that honor. Ignore the fact that this movie earned 11 Oscars, this is simply just an amazing movie. Up until this point I have yet to see the 3D version, but I'm not too sure I'm going to spring for that. I'm still not completely sold on 3D versions of movies being any better than the original.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet helped develop one of the strongest, most iconic cinematic love stories of all time. Shakespeare himself would be proud of the star-crossedness of the story. Don't even pretend like you've never done the "I'm flying" bit on the front of a boat before. Aside from the two leads, this movie was perfectly casted. Kathy Bates was awesome as the comedic Molly Brown, and Billy Zane showed off wonderful talent portraying a greedy, almost heartless male antagonist. I also love Victor Garber in this movie, although I still have a tendency to refer to him as "that guy from Titanic" whenever I see him in other movies.

The story itself is obviously authentic. This has to be one of my favorite period pieces considering the close attention to detail that had to be made when filming different parts of the ship. The costumes, makeup, and hairstyling were all exemplary. The most impressive part of the movie for me was how the story successfully strung me along as tensions rose between the characters and between the events that unfolded after the ship hit the iceberg. It was an emotional roller coaster full of tragedy and romance. What more could you ask for in a movie?

There are literally only TWO complaints I can think people would possible have with this movie. First, many people complain that the movie it too long, but honestly, it's so good that I often lose track of the time. Second, and this one reveals the ending, so if you are a crazy person and still haven't seen this movie, do not read on. I've had many friends of mine complain when the old Rose dumps the necklace back into the ocean. Chill out people, it's poetic and it makes perfect sense. This is an amazing movie. What more do you want me to say?
