Gamers Rejoice!

Movie: Wreck-It Ralph
Contributor: Hunter
Rating: 9/10
BIAS ALERT: I love video games, through and through. So, naturally, when I heard a Disney film about video games was going to be released, I pretty much squealed with excitement. (I wish I was kidding.) The movie poster alone features some of my classic favorites: Pac-Man, Q*bert, the whole gang. Of course, I went in with my fair amount of skepticism, but I thankfully was not let down.

I believe the only reason why this film did not win Best Animation (Brave) is because it simply was not made with Best Animation in mind. It is hard to win said award when you include songs from Rihanna and Kool & The Gang. Other than that, there was a genuine, albeit predictable, connection with the audience. Disney usually hits casting on the spot, and this movie is no exception. John C. Reilly and Jack McBrayer are perfect for their roles, and as annoying as Sarah Silverman can be, she did what she needed to do.

It was also nice and very humorous to see Jane Lynch in a voiceover role. Another impressive aspect of the movie was the graphics. Call my old-fashioned, but when I see how animation graphics have come along over the past decade or so, I still remain quite impressed, rather than taking them for granted like I feel other people may act. Why might people not like this movie? Well, it is an animation, and animations can be pretty hit or miss. I like animations for the same reason I still like going to Disneyland: there is always room to be a kid, no matter how old you are.

Some of you out there may simply despise video games, and therefore may find the premise of the film irrelevant and unrealistic. Otherwise, it's a pretty good animation telling the classic story of an outcast finding harmony with another outcast, and they lived happily ever after.
