Hill and Tatum Surprisingly Work

Movie: 21 Jump Street
Contributor: Hunter
Rating: 7/10
It's more surprising that being a fan of almost all-things 80s, I have never seen the original 21 Jump Street. From what I heard, fans of the original were pretty pleased with this one. It was also interesting to watch this movie because it was the first time I saw skinny Jonah Hill on the big screen. He looked, eh, kinda awkward. I digress, the movie works but it's not at that "LOL" level for me.

I have always enjoyed Channing Tatum in his comedic roles rather than his dramatic ones and he did not fail to disappoint in this one. It was great seeing the dialogue between Hill and Tatum, who are not comedy knockouts at first glance, but had a lot of funny interchanges throughout this movie. It was also a good moment for Rob Riggle, who I think is pretty underrated for a B-list actor. It will be interesting to see if Dave Franco will be able to get anywhere close to his brother in net worth, but so far, not even close, although he was pretty funny in this movie too.

Other than a few standout performances, the movie was terribly predictable, and it felt like the writers didn't make much of an attempt to spice things up other than a few cameos here and there. It is also a pain when some of the funniest moments in the movie are things you have already seen in the previews.

This can be best characterized as a casual rental or Netflix add if you are looking for a comedy. It's funny but it's nothing too special.
