Hunter's Reformed Scale
As of August 2015, I will be switching to the more holistic four-star rating system. I have found that most movies that I see fall somewhere between the 7-9 range, and may not be as helpful as I had originally anticipated. Here is the outline for what each star will mean for me.
4 StarsWe only see these movies once in a blue moon; so unique and so critical, maybe even changes the landscape of filmmaking. Bravo!
3 StarsOne of those movies that you feel good walking out of – maybe you even learned something. Everything about the movie is planned and structured, making it well-worth the price of admission.
2 StarsA good effort. There could be one or two major elements of the movie that don't seem to click, but it's at least watchable and mildly interesting.
1 StarCannot be validated as "good" in any interpretation of the word. This could categorize everything from a waste of time to laughably bad.

Hunter's Old Scale
10The closest to perfection you can get. Truly, an amazing film.
9The movie was great. I could watch it over and over again. Only one or two things were iffy.
8Good movie: it was entertaining and worth the time and money. Perhaps something could have been differently to make it even better.
7Okay movie: I wouldn't go out of my way to see it again, and it was certainly lacking in specific areas.
6Eh: it wasn't good, but it wasn't bad. There was at least one major aspect of the movie that just didn't work. Wouldn't be heartbroken if I never saw it again.
1-5I can get pretty generous with my movie review ratings, but yikes, if it's in the 1-5 range, be warned. The movie was just plain bad.
