Identity Theft Can Be Funny

Movie: Identity Thief
Contributor: Hunter
Rating: 7/10
Several of my friends give me crap regularly for not watching Jason Bateman classics like Arrested Development, but I can't help it! I'm a movie person, not as much of a TV person. I do, however, enjoy Bateman's other greats, such as Horrible Bosses and The Switch, so I figured this movie would be right up my alley.

Ever since her role on Bridesmaids, Melissa McCarthy has been on the fast-track to comedic glory. She is a queen of one-liners that often leave me busted up laughing. (Am I the only one really looking forward to The Heat?) There are some other funny appearances from T.I. and Modern Family's Eric Stonestreet. The movie itself was funny, don't get me wrong, but it had the potential to be hilarious. Forget the fact that the actual act of identity thievery was hardly believable, there were too many dull moments in the movie that prevented it from being a truly awesome comedy.

Now that I think about it, the one-liners in this one could not have been that great seeing as how I can't remember any of them at the moment, other than the ones from the preview I saw about 20 times. My memory is pretty weak as it is, so don't take that as a sign that this is only a mediocre movie. It will probably be on HBO or Showtime sometime soon, and if you have access to those, I would recommend giving it a chance. Just don't go too far out of your way for a comedy that falls short of all-out hilarity (unless you are a huge Bateman/McCarthy fan).
