Very, Very Touching

Movie: Silver Linings Playbook
Contributor: Hunter
Rating: 9/10
My first thought when watching this movie for the first time in the theater was, "Wow, Chris Tucker is in this movie. Good for Chris Tucker." For the rest of the film, I was highly entertained by a movie full of angst-driven emotional outbursts, comedic exchanges, and impressive writing. This is a fantastic film, and I'm not even going to wait until the end of the review to urge you to go see it.

I will explain momentarily why I would not spring to give this movie a 10, but we'll get to that in a second. It has to do with Bradley Cooper, who exhibited probably my favorite performance of his career so far. You've got to give it up for Jennifer Lawrence for this breakout role, and she truly deserved Best Actress this year. I think I lot of people wrote her off after The Hunger Games, but she proved that she is an extremely talented individual with a lot to bring to the acting table. This movie would not be complete without the wonderful additions of Robert De Niro and Jacki Weaver, whose loaded resumes will swell even more with this movie.

So, back to the bigger question, why did I not give this movie a 10? I do not want to take anything away from Cooper, because he truly did a great job with this movie. However, I feel that the movie could have been bumped up to the next level if casting had gone in a different direction for that role. Cooper did what a lot of other decently talented actors could have done, and I feel they could have found someone that would have brought it to that next level.

When all is said and done, this is a fantastic movie and you need to go see it.
